This year we are trying a new experiment at Fantasy Faire – a short film festival, grounded in Second Life and virtual fantasy films of different kinds.
We will be featuring films from popular Second Life machinima makers, and episodes from Second Life TV series with a strong fantasy element. The line up includes a Machinima Mondays session with famed machinimatographer, Chantal Harvey, a retrospective of the work of Loki Eliot, a hilarious web series from Phaylen Fairchild, and a showing the full length thriller STÖMOL by Huckleberry Hax, introduced by the film-maker – as well as Zander Greene being interviewed by Saffia Widdershins about his work as an actor in First and Second Life as well.
And we are very pleased to announce that after a gap of a number of years, the well-known creators of machinima, Phaylen Fairchild and Toxic Menges will be returning especially for Machinima Mondays!
And if this year proves successful, we have Plans for next year too.
All events will be inthe Dragon Dreams theatre cave on Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙.

“Confessions of a Day Player: or What I Did For Scale!” An Interview with Zander Greene
Saturday, 1 May 11:00 – 12:00
Before he was Fantasy Faire’s “Zander Greene,” Second Life actor, he was Scott Simpson, First Life actor who appeared in 300 plays, 25 animation projects and a dozen film and television roles. Scott worked on screen with actors such as James Earl Jones, Richard Chamberlain, Ellen Burstyn, Katie Holmes and Terry Hatcher, and with directors including Michael Apted, John Frankenheimer and Frank Capra Jr. So, when he began to work as an actor in Second Life, he was stunned to discover as many ways that it was identical to working in the physical world as ways in which it was different.
Sure, you don’t have to deal with thunderstorms or emergency sirens interrupting the shoot, but what is lag if not bad weather? Part voice acting, part puppetry, part…well, some things for which we really don’t even have words yet! Acting in a virtual world is completely different from acting in the physical one. Except for the ways in which it is utterly identical.
Join us today, as Scott takes off the Zander mask and shares tales of his journeyman days on the boards and the silver screen. Not to mention the pixel screen …
