Tales from the Regions: The Bazaar Dungeon

In the Down Below
by Caledonia Skytower

Meters of stone, solid and cold
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

Passages beckoning, whispering bold
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

Merchants with wares,
torches so bright
try to entice you
buy and delight.
Unwary travelers
disappearing from sight.
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

There now fair maiden, why do you linger
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

Mysteries awful and old, they say, cling here
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

Incantations of ancients,
murmur to her
around every corner
atop every stair.
Come see foolish maiden
our secrets discover.
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

A channel that ends, and a torch is extinguished
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

Rustles and slithers surround from the inky
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

A flash of bright crystal,
her face all ablaze
the fire in her eyes
revealing the mage.
The challenging murk
vanquished steps to retrace.
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

They say there is evil there, lurking unseen
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

But all is deceptive, and not as it seems
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

What’s good for the dark is,
likewise for the bright.
Some that seem helpless are
not as they might.
Corruption be careful
for here treads the light.
Deep in the dark, in the down below.

You can also read the Tales written by the Magpies of the Bazaar Dungeon.

The Magpies have no home beyond the tunnels of the Bazaar Dungeon where they have set up their camp. Some are descendants of former convicts, while others have come here to seek adventure and fortune. The Magpies explore the tunnels looking for legendary artifacts while braving the dangers below under the watchful eye of their Guardians.

Read their stories, written in their own characteristic voices, here.
