As the veil to the Fairelands lifted, the Envoys of Seamaide arrived at the Spirit Pool. They were joined by citizens from other realms. After giving elemental sacrifices to the Gods in a ritual led by the Lord of the Wylds, the Envoys sought guidance. An earth elemental answered their call, and with the help of travelers who were able to speak to the stone creature, it gave the group the following dire warning:
“The taint,” it said slowly, its voice sounding like stone being dragged across stone, “is a threat to all lands. Already it makes its way even to the waters here. You have little time.” It looked over its shoulder for a brief moment. “Seek out that of earth, wind, fire, and water. Work them together as one, for only their energies together can heal the taint. Be quick. In ten days, the taint will spread. It will spread to more than your small isle. And beware. There are those who seek to stop you in your task.”
“Heal the waters; heal the lands,” he said as he began to dissipate into dust, the magics that sent him to the Spirit Pool now waning. “Ten days.”
The snake cultist has proclaimed a terrible grievance with the Sultan Lut…and wishes vengeance upon his entire blood line for it regardless of relative innocence. He seeks magical gems with which to construct a scepter of unbelievable power so as to destroy them all and Sanctuary forever.
Miriamne, diplomat for the Royal Family, and the intrepid adventurers of Sanctuary seek to stop him. Meanwhile, shall he remain alone? He does after all have a side…
The Emerald Djinn came to warn him off, and to warn the adventurers as well. On the morrow they begin the decent beneath the Oasis…a long and terrible journey where he will seek his scepter Gems, and they will seek the gems of defense, and battle many monsters along the way!
Stevie Basevi, the owner of the Sanctuary sim and the Sanctuary RP Community, returns to the Fairelands for the fourth year with ever-increasing involvement. This year Sanctuary RP Community sponsors Kakushi Pasu, the Faireland hosting our Literary Festival. Stevie shares with us some sneak peeks of the upcoming Faire-roleplay and of the whole story-planning process.
This is the fourth year Sanctuary RP Community sponsors Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to return and do it again?
Hah! How could I not? I’m hopelessly hooked! Four years, huh? Time flies when you’re doing what you love, and the Fantasy Faire is something that I do love, and look forward to each year. I sponsor because the Faire is a Relay For Life event, which makes it important to me. I’m also thrilled to say that once again, I’m Fantasy Faire Roleplay Lead, which means assisting Saffia behind the scenes. I get to help each group who’s offered to roleplay at the Faire! Oh, and I get to shop too, lots of shopping, lol.
How does roleplaying in the Fairelands differ from roleplaying in Second Life otherwise?
For us, there’s not a lot of difference because at the Fantasy Faire all who walk by have an opportunity to join in and with free form roleplay such as ours, it’s much the same. At least that’s how we do it in our community. Fantasy Faire RP is generally more magically based, where in ‘regular’ SL, there’s more RP based on RL. And our sims are not surrounded by some of the best shopping in all of SL as it is in the Fairelands.
How early do you begin preparing for the storyline for the Faire? How does it work, making sure your community’s roleplay reaches a point where the roleplay at the Faire is a smooth continuation?
Truth be told, we start talking about the next year’s Fantasy Faire Roleplay as soon as the current one ends. This past year, we started our Roleplay meetings soon after last year’s ended. We gathered the groups earlier, and as a result, I believe we’re more organized and much less stressed.
What is your story like this year?
Ooh this year we have something special for everyone once again! We will begin the story in Sanctuary on our 7th anniversary and tell the tale of the two cursed dancers in the tavern. We will tell their stories and explain how they became charmed.
At Fantasy Faire, we’ll continue the story by addressing the magical cult that enchanted the two girls, bringing history and dark magiks forward, progressing our history and possibly bringing a resolution to their predicament.
What are you looking forward to most this year in the Faire?
I think this year I’m really looking forward to some of the changes we’ve made with Roleplay, and also seeing those old friends that you see every so often but when you get back together it’s like it was only yesterday that you last spoke. Of course I’m also looking forward to seeing the amazing creativity of the sim designers, and the energy and excitement of the Faire!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, Stevie, and thank you for all that you and your community do to bring the Fairelands alive!
