Meet Our Sponsors: OtherSkin

Kaleidos Hope, the creator and owner of OtherSkin.

Kaleidos Hope, the creator and owner of OtherSkin, shares with us how her stories transform into items, talks of roleplay and her reasons to sponsor the Faire, and offers previews of her Faire-wares!

This is your third year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to return and do it again?

I always like to recur the statement, that I stand behind the Fantasy Faire. I love it and I made myself the promise to support it in the best possible way. I am addicted to fantasy and the life style it implicates. The great feeling of being someone else, you never could be in real life, the dreams and the beautiful colors, they all open up my heart and make my life a bit happier.

You often have stories to complement your items. How important are stories as a part of your creation process? Which comes first, the story or the item?

This a good question Sonya and I am happy to answer. The process varies, this time the story came first. I like to make theme oriented releases, I always wanna reveal a bit of my personality to the customers. Good stories (in fact I don’t know if I am able to write good stories *laughs*) inspire me and give my chaotic mind a direction. I always need a common theme, to find my way, as well as creator. This year I made the decision to try a different direction, I hope it will be enjoyed:

The “OtherSkin RFL Release 2017” called “Home” and bases on this story.

It’s an animated pendulum you can use as oracle, or to find your way inworld. The pendulum has three random animations (it can move horizontally, vertically or in circles) and comes with a oracle pose.
“Home” is also available, as necklace to wear. You can read the story here and get some sneak peaks as well: “Home – health is the goal -“

What are you bringing to the Faire this year? Give us some sneak peeks or teasers!

OtherSkin will bring also three further new releases, which will be published on the Fantasy Faire 2017 first.

“Mashallah – enjoy the beauty -”

Mashallah means beautiful and is a gold and silver necklace with earrings, which comes in eight different colors. This Oriental jewel is adorned with a star-shaped gemstone.

“Trinity – transitions -”

Trinity reminds of the certain stages of life. It’s also a gold and silver necklace with earrings, which comes in eight different colors. The Celtic jewel has beautiful gemstones, you can bring, if you want to, with glowing to life.

“Infinity – dive into-“

Infinity the three endless loops of fortune. As well a gold and silver necklace with earrings, which comes in eight different colors. Also with a gemstone glow option available, a must have for all Celtic fans!

With your ability to bring characters to life, I must ask: do you roleplay? If so, what is your favorite type of character to play?

Sure I love roleplay, but I must confess I love it a bit different than other people do. I am not good in conversation, I am a very shy personality, so I like to stay in the background and do beautiful releases and imagine, how they have fun with them and play a scene.
I also love the locations and the landscaping of roleplay sims, if I would have more time I am sure, I would be interested in doing such as well.

I also made the decision, to share my life with a great roleplay HUB. If you are looking for a new roleplay family or wanna know, how different roleplay sims can be, you can visit not only “OtherSkin” at Hubunny, we also have the “WoRPG HUB” here. So if you ask, which character I would choose, I have to base my answer on imagination. I think I would play a healing and magic personality.

What are you looking forward to most this year in the Faire?

I am excited about the sim designs and as well, to meet some friends again. Also, I am curious about the set up and how it will be, what a feeling the sim I chose, will give to me. I am sure it will be gorgeous!
I also hope, there will be raised a huge sum for charity. I am still very interested in collecting money for Cancer and I hope I can wake up one day with a cure for it and don’t have to be afraid about my children.

Thanks for the inspiring and joy giving interview Sonya and I hope we will meet next year again.

Thank you as well dear reader, that you took your time for my thoughts. May we share the hope again!

Best, Kaleidos

Thank you, Kaleidos, for taking the time to talk with us! Thank you for bringing your stories woven into items to the Fairelands again!

Fantasy Cabaret at Sapphire Mirror Lake

LGC Fantasy Faire

There have been some amazing live performances at Fantasy Faire this year, and this weekend was no exception when the Lady Garden Cabaret took the stage on beautiful Sapphire Mirror Lake. The house was packed and the sim was quickly full ~ yes, these ladies are that good!  The incredible show was a mixture of fairy tale inspired ensembles with no imagination spared for the elaborately decorated sets.

If you missed the show, don’t fret. An encore presentation will begin promptly at 11am (SLT) on Sunday, May 1 on Sapphire Mirror Lake. If you didn’t catch the show, I can’t recommend it any higher. The ladies are also performing tomorrow, April 29th at 3pm (SLT) at the Lady Garden Cabaret on Pegasoi if you are unable to attend the Sunday show.

1- Kaleidos Hope 2016
Kaleidos Hope, the creator and owner of OtherSkin

Kaleidos Hope, the creator and owner of OtherSkin returns to sponsor the Faire. She shares with us the stories behind her new releases and her creative themes and wishes. You can read more about Kaleidos in her last year’s interview.

This is your second year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you return and do it again?

The Fantasy Faire is indeed the best event grid wide. Last year, I made the decision, to support it in the best possible way. It’s not only the feeling of a return at home after a very long travel, it’s as well the charity and the altruism, to change world, who stands behind this wonderful idea of sharing the love and passion for fantasy.

Are there any common, continuing themes in your work, items that belong together, or is each creation a separate entity?

*laughs* This is a good question. Yes, there are indeed themes, who return in my work. For me creating is much more than doing an article or something who sell, being an SL creator means for me talking about my soul and my inner truth.

My most popular theme, seems to be the wish, being in good health. But continuing here, strikes me as a very depressing direction to talk about. I am glad, being still a part of the SL creator world, with some small and new releases after long breaks from time to time. 🙂

What are you bringing to the Faire this year? Give us some sneak peeks or teasers!

This year I continued to work on the idea, publishing some special items exclusively and only on the running Fantasy Faires in Second Life.

The 2015 release “Cured” and as well the 2016 release, called “Prophecy” can be bought in the OtherSkin booth on the “Blackmoor” SIM.

“Prophecy”

2 - Cured Preview I

The story behind:

Once upon a cure, there was a woman, she was wise like the spirit of our ancestors, she was benevolent, kind and warm hearted.
She always told the truth and she was able to take a look behind the veil of time.
Not like the most clairvoyant women, she was admired and welcome.
She wore the greatest honor and the greatest burden, proudly and graceful:

“The beard of the wise woman”

One stormy and rainy night, while the wind howled around her small cottage in the desert and the flashes streaked through the darkness, like one idea was running behind the next one, a young man knocked on her door and she welcomed him with tea and some food.
After he was warmed up, he started to cry on her shoulder:
He traveled all so long and far, has visited so many towns and met so many faces, but all was senseless, there was no cure for his sick and beloved wife.
He asked the wise woman of town for consult.

“I will tell you an old and nearly forgotten story”, she stared to talk with her warm and friendly voice:

“There was a bird, gold like the sunbeams, his voice brought out the sweetest melody, that made your heart shake, he was elegant, proud and full of love and gentleness.
He slipped out of it’s egg into a world made of gold. There was only light and peace, who surrounded it’s life. It was a good life he had, without pain and diseases, it was so good, that he has forgotten, that there was darkness, he came from. Each day was a reason to live, to enjoy and to laugh. He had many friends and was closely linked with everyone, especially his family.

3 - Cured Preview II

He loved “The Empire of Light” and his favourite amusement was, to discover it and thought, he knew every corner and each place of it. But one day he knew, he was wrong.
He flew away out, it took days and he flew further and much more further, till he reached the border of the empire.

His eyes blinked as he noticed something different. His mind wasn’t able to express, but there was something he never met before. It’s hard to explain, how you feel, when you notice something, you never thought it could exist. His heart was beating and he started to shiver, but he gathered all his courage, he was able to find and flew directly into it.

Suddenly, all the light was expired, he was belted by absolute darkness. He wasn’t able to see and his eyes needed a long time to adapt to. He flew deeper and deeper into the other world and with each beat of his wings, his heart was beating heavier. A flood of pain, fear and loneliness went through his body. All these emptiness and longing filled his eyes with water and a tear curled softly out of his canthus and fell noiseless into the dark room.

He became observer of the metamorphosis of his own charity:

The tear turned into a white and silver shimmering bird, who screamed out a beautiful noise,
during it’s own birth. ”

“Today we know this bird as bearer of hope, as messenger of peace, as enlightener and as our cure, who comes to us into the deepest and darkest night.”

“I see this bird waiting behind the veil”, the wise woman told the young man.
“Waiting from the beginning, to be reborned again and again.”

“Thus will it ever be!”

4 - Prophecy Preview I

What are your favourite fantasy realms?

Fantasy realms are unlimited and timeless, diving into other worlds, means setting your soul free. I love them all, how shall I commit myself on only one direction, if there are so many ideas, to express yourself and your feelings? I am a very versatile personality, who love as well trying something new here and there sometimes…

What are you looking forward to most this year in the Faire?

I think the most stirring time for me will be the set up and visiting all the great Fair designs. I am as well curious about all the beautiful releases, who will be available and made with love and devotion by all my fellows. I hope, 2016 will be a successful event, with tons of donations and many content customers and participants.

Thanks for your time and passion Sonya, it was again a pleasure for me, to talk to you!

Thanks as well to everyone out there, who decide, to read this small interview!

5 - Prophecy Preview II

Meet Our Sponsors: OtherSkin

Kaleidos Hope
Kaleidos Hope, the creator and owner of OtherSkin.

Kaleidos, the creator and owner of OtherSkin, shares with us her reasons to relay and sponsor, her history as a builder and sneak peeks of her Faire-wares.

This is your first year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to become a sponsor?

The decision wasn’t difficult. When I heard that the Fantasy Faire was looking for sponsors, I didn’t hesitate and chose the sponsoring.
I wasn’t sure if they wanna have a small shop, as mine is, as a sponsor, but now I am lucky and proud, that I got the chance, being
part in the realization of a next Fantasy Faire.

My first faire experience, I mean my really first Faire experience, I had last year on the Fantasy Faire 2014.  I never went to fairs before and thought, this isn’t my world. But it was so great and inspiring, that I mutated to a fair junky. *laughs* The founder of this Faire was so tough, friendly and helpful, she gave me a really great start, I think I will never forget. 😉

Last year was hard for me, I lost a few month before my beloved father on cancer. This was also a reason why I decided being a sponsor this year. Now my hands are tremble….no it’s not easy, to go this way. It’s fucking hard, but I do, and OtherSkin does.

I chose the “Hope” as my display name Kaleidos Hope says. I wanna give the people outside hope and strength, wanna make them smile about little things, like jewel and let them forget for a moment, that there is pain in the world! I wanna see their sparkling eyes! Fulfilled with the truth, that only the moment counts, the one thing, You never loose!! Everything, that we take with us. I believe in another world after life and I know my father is now on a better place.
I think he is lucky, but I am sure, he try and I am sure, his world was build on all these memories, he was able to take with him.

So it try to live on, to collect all these beautiful moments, like the Fantasy Faire 2015 and doing my best, to support the American Cancer Society. I hope they will find a cure. One day they will be able to make all these cancer ill people and their family a present. More time to collect life! That’s what I believe in!

How did you begin building in Second Life? What inspires you to create?

Aww, this is long time ago! Longer than Kaleidos Hope exist or OtherSkin. Yes this is my second char, but it’s okay for me, I needed a new start to bring me on that level I am today!

I registered in Second Life and after I rezzed my first prim, I was high. Sleep? Sleeping is overrated! A few days later I worked on my first shop design, I think being owner of a business was my deepest wish inside. I often remember on my first, never public seen shop, called “Skycube” and my first sculpty, a chess lady!

Then came my second shop design, again something about chess, but it also felt not right. I decided to leave Second Life. But one day I woke up and something deep inside of me told me to go back to Second Life, the voice didn’t stopped. I tried to ignore it, but it was useless, so Kaleidos Hope was born 4 years ago and with her OtherSkin.

Today I know it was the wrong name I chose first and I feel
well in my skin now. I wear black, I tried different skin tones, ornaments, sparkles, rainbows also, but I wasn’t able to find my peace in them.

Some time ago I decided to make a mannequin, I made her black, she only served for the work. But I came too close to her, she woke up, came to life and gave me my skin I was always looking for. I am skinner, I love skins and it’s my passion to create full avatars.
To my shame I must confess it’s long time ago I finished a new avatar. It is very time expensive and I think, I have to make a avatar break soon, to find the peace for the next upcoming avatar.
She is an angel and has a small story, you can read more about it in the next question.  I published only 4 colors and I am looking forward to publish the next 4 on the Fantasy Faire 2015.

Enough AD! Always the same with me. *laughs* The point I wanted to make is, I wanna give all the SL user out there the chance to find their own skin, something to love and to feel well inside, something you never wanna miss anymore, like I never wanna miss Second Life, OtherSkin and Kaleidos Hope anymore!

What are you bringing to the Faire this year? Give us some sneak peeks or teasers!

As I told, I wanna publish the last 4 skin tones of the upcoming avatar “Satura”.  It’s new for me to publish a not finished avatar, but she is a bit different, I wanted the SL world being part of a birth, I wanted the people see her grow up and I hope she will be a beautiful angel. The skins are the first impressions I give, like the first ultrasound pictures of an unborn child. I hope You enjoy it! 🙂

Here is a link to a great blog by Helena Stringer, with the story about her: – Nothing Gold Can Stay –

Avatar Satura Skin

The second article I will bring is dedicated to the Relay For Life Of Second Life and to all people who had a meet with cancer. (Whether friends, relative, affected or attending physicians.) It’s a jewel set (earrings and necklace) and available in 8 pearl color tones. The motif is the Aesculapian wand. The Aesculapian wand stands for health, healer, physicians and so I see, for a cure. My desire is to strengthen the belief of our healers, they need all our hope and benefits.  They don’t have to give up searching for a cure. I believe in a cure! My hope does! Do You belief in?

Here a overview to all available colors:

The third article I gonna publish on the Faire, will be a surprise, maybe a reason to come around? 🙂

What calls you to fantasy? When was the first time you encountered the genre and realized you enjoyed it?

It’s a secret. 😉 My story prevents me from talking about that.

Do you have a favourite Faire memory? What are you looking forward to most this year?

As I mentioned, it was a great impression for me, it was my first Faire experience and changed my mind. The people, the stunning sim designs and all the fantastic creators I met there. It’s a great thing, I am lucky being part of it again and I am glad that I got the chance to help collecting money for the American Cancer Society and the fight against this degrading and hurting illness. I am looking forward to a funny and amazing time, who takes us with it in other worlds, in dreams and in hope. Thanks for the interview and for listening.

Warm regards to all and my sympathy to those ones who know how it feels fighting with cancer.
