Have you a Faire Tale to share?

The Fairelands have faded back into the Mists, but for many of us, they are still in our minds and imaginations.

Over the course of the Faire, many people were inspired to write stories and poems – and many of those have been shared with us. Over the coming days, we will be sharing those with you,  through this blog, and also adding them to the LitFest area of the site.

But if you have written about the Fairelands, or have been inspired to write by the Faire, there is still time to submit your writing to be included on the website as we build an anthology of Faire writings.

Literary Festival: Fran Wilde’s Reading List – and her request to the Faire Folk!

Fran Wilde was the special guest at this year’s Fantasy Faire, and was interviewed about her work (it was a wonderful interview!) and then gave a reading of some of her work, including the beautiful story A Catalog of Storms which is nominated for a Hugo this year, and can be read in Uncanny Magazine.

She also talked about writers whose works she has been enjoying – and for those of us who were slow to scribble down all the names, she agreed to give us a reading list – as long as we told her what we are reading too!

So here is the list that Fran has sent (and three lists from Fairelanders too!):

Thank You (Blogger Highlights VII)

The above is a magnificent picture by Tamzin Xigalia. It has everything a good Faire-picture should have: Faireland environment, Fairelanders of many shape and size, a Faire legend (in this case the Fairechylde, our dragonborne party ship) and of course bunnies! …fine, fine. I’m biased. Bunnies optional!

The problem with highlights is that you have to choose. Especially if you have limited time and defined themes and subjects you want to follow. Even if everyone would be deserving of a mention and a spot in the fae starlight, it isn’t always possible. Blogger highlights for Fantasy Faire are absolutely a case like that. I wanted to present them as themes, as ways and methods to blog the Faire, show examples of the said blogging, and I think for most parts that went well. It of course doesn’t change the fact that many a brilliant post was left unmentioned if the theme it fits had already been highlighted, or if there simply wasn’t time enough to include everyone within the short and busy weeks of the Faire.

Anthem to the Worldmakers: A Special Broadcast on Fantasy Faire Radio

[Transcript of a special broadcast from Fantasy Faire Radio, May 12, 2020.  You can hear the broadcast here.]

Fairelands don’t just happen. They are born of the talent, time and dedication of many people. The 18 Regions of this year’s Faire were built by some of the most brilliant, visionary artists in the virtual world or any other. Some of those have been part of the Faire for 12 years now. Some joined us in 2020 for the first time. Each played a vital role in making the 2020 Faire an experience that none of us will ever forget.

While Fantasy Faire Radio began this year with a tribute sets to the Regions, today we honor not the Fairelands that were created, but rather the creators of those Regions themselves. They are the reason why our One Vision found a home in Many Realms. They make us Stronger by giving us a place to be Together.

Fantasy Faire Radio is proud to present this special broadcast, “Anthem to Worldmakers.”
