An Interview with Zachh Barkley.
Special thanks to Joonie Jatho for this year’s interview with The .
First, thank you so much for all your hard work for Fantasy Faire
1. How did you learn about Second Life?
I stumbled across Second Life back in 2005, whilst seeking new MMO’s to play. Second Life appeared the most interesting out of the list, so I gave it a shot, and became instantly addicted to the possibilities it offered.
2. Did you know you wanted to become a content creator immediately or did that come later?
Becoming a creator came a few months after joining Second Life. At first, I was enjoying the wonderful creations SL had to offer and often wishing things did something different, or spent my time dreaming of things that could be made. Eventually I put some of my ideas to the test and started making my own products thinking they wouldn’t sell to a very big audience. Low and behold, my life was changed in a day. When I noticed people being interested in my creations, I decided to take on the idea full time and I’ve been using Second Life as a career ever since. I feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful opportunity, it has opened so many doors.
3. You make amazing magical creations. Why magic and where does your inspiration come from?
I’m a very creative, and imaginative person.
I draw my inspiration from writing, music, books, experience, knowledge, poetry, imagination and sheer possibility. The Arcanum is an interpretation of my fantastical state of mind. It represents the fact that anything is possible in some way or another, and the wonder of the human mind. I’ve always been addicted to the possibilities and lore of the Sci-Fi and Fantasy genres, ever since I was a young child. I always found the idea of the human imagination to be extremely alluring, so I use Second Life to ask “What If?”, and then shape the idea into a product that everyone can enjoy.
4. How did you learn about Relay for Life?
Ember Farina of “Friends Fighting Cancer” approached me in 2009, and invited me to participate in the Fantasy Faire. I’ve always loved helping people in anyway I could, I love seeing people smile. Second Life has been so good to me, and with the idea of Relay For Life in Second Life, I jumped on the chance to contribute back in whatever way I could. It feels wonderful to help those who need it, and Relay For Life is such a wonderful thing.
5. What is your favorite thing about Fantasy Faire? Why should someone who has never been to Fantasy Faire attend this year?
My favorite thing about the Faire would quite simply be the culmination of all of the different Sci-Fi/Fantasy elements of Second Life. It’s quite an interesting experience to traverse the different worlds that the Fantasy Faire brings together. Not to mention the awesome one-of-a-kind creations you’ll encounter. You get to meet hundreds of people, fellow creators, and unite together for a wonderful cause.
6. You sponsor the Fantastical and Magical sim. Thank you so much. Why did you decide to sponsor a sim for Fantasy Faire?
I’ve happily sponsored the sim ever since I’ve been apart of the Faire. I saw doing so as an opportunity to give back to the community and help those in need. As a compassionate person by nature, I really enjoy getting to be apart of something so great!
7. We all have our own reasons for getting involved in RFL. Could you tell us a little bit about yours?
In all honesty, I’m here because I want to help make a difference. I do not have a personal story relating to a loved one, I really just love to help people. There are so many people in the world who are looking to benefit only themselves, and I want to make a stand against that. The American Cancer Society is such a just cause, and my hope is one day we will find that elusive cure.
8.. Fantasy Faire is an excellent way to educate and inform people about RFL. What would you like to see people take away from Fantasy Faire this year?
I want people to know that Charity is not some big scary monster trying to eat your bank account. You don’t have to cut off an arm and a leg to make a difference in the world. Charity can be fun, invigorating, and really quite rewarding. Every little bit helps, so if all you can donate is a dollar or five, toss it in. You’ll never regret doing so.
9. After visiting your store, I was really surprised to see all the things you offer. One of my faves is the broom! What would you say are your most popular items.
The most popular item is by far the Wishmaster Spell HUD. Launched in 2008, it’s become the most highly regarded spell HUD in Second Life. We’re very proud and grateful to have such a wonderful audience who constantly show their support for the store and our products. As long as Second Life exists, The Arcanum will still be around to provide people with a mystical experience. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with me and with RFL Fantasy Faire! xoxoxoxo ❤ ❤
Thank you for providing myself and the Arcanum with the opportunity to make a difference in the world! Relay…For Life!
