LitFest Tour: Erstwhile

The Faire is brimming with stories: breathtaking builds and fantastical creations designed to touch your heart and soul. What stories do they inspire in you? We invite you to put your Fantasy Faire experience into words.

Erstwhile (Marcus Inkpen/Sharni Azalee)

A close look here sees walkways, docks… a skyport in the bowl of an enormous crater, wrought from a technology so advanced that it will forever seem ancient. From here, merchants in scarabesque vessels ply their trade between the worlds, between realities. But step back; let the sunlight gleam from the opalescent hulls and they become as petals, the brass and iron of the walkways become stems, to the structures that hold it all together: a magnificent flower, shining in the crater’s embrace. In the middle of it all, a bright light streaks upwards, the connection to those other realities by which these ships journey to places as yet undreamed. This is the gateway of now. The launching off point for those brave souls that are truly ready for the future.

Seeds of Story

These are suggestions. Be inspired by this land and write what you desire.

It is the stained glass that first strikes your eye. Illuminated from within, the jewel tones glowing, you want to know: Who is the artist? How did he or she create these huge expanses of beautiful color? What story would you write about this creator?

Step up! At this desk you can book a trip to amazing places! Where would you choose to go? Are you traveling alone? With friends? For pleasure? Or on business too secret to share?

You follow the sign marked Departures but the stair is dark. What awaits you? You have your ticket, yes, but do you really know where you are going? A fresh, chill wind hits your face. What are your dreams in this moment? Your fears?

These ships! They are breathtaking and also unusual. What drives them? How far can they travel? You have never seen the like. Tell a story about these ships.

You find a place to sit until your flight is called and find yourself entranced by this marvelous device. It seems to mirror the heavens and even to move as the planets themselves might. You begin to wonder just how far these ships can travel. If you journeyed to the stars where you would go? Why? What would you find there?
