Words of power are coming to the Faire for our Fourth Literary Festival (LitFest) – which will be based on the region of Halls of Story!
Over the ten days of the LitFest, there will be talks by authors, discussions, creative writing sessions and performances.
Our headline speakers this year are the two fantasy authors, Tom Lloyd (http://TomLloyd.co.uk) on Tuesday 24th April and Danie Ware (http://danieware.com) on Thursday 26th April, who will both be in conversation with David Abbott.
In addition, there will be stories and discussions with a host of writers who have particular relationships with Second Life – you can see details on our special schedule here.
In past years, we have celebrated fantasy writers Terry Pratchett, William Shakespeare and JRR Tolkien with special Days. This year, for the first time, we will be celebrating a living author – George RR Martin, with discussions, stories and, of course, a party. See our special George RR Martin page for details!
This year we will again be emphasizing creation, as a number of the leaders of creative writing groups in Second Life bring their regular events to the Faire, and welcome newcomers who want to join in with such events.
And there is our own special daily story and poetry writing challenge. Every day, we will be inviting you to put your Fantasy Faire experience into words. The Faire is brimming with stories: breathtaking builds and fantastical creations designed to touch your heart and soul. What stories do they inspire in you?
We will be repeating our very successful Fantasy Faire LitFest Tours, leaving daily at 5pm from our home base on Halls of Story to explore the Fantasy Faire Continent. We will be seeking the stories of the Fairelands – along with special secret places and details, and each day a Guide will lead a tour to one of the Fantasy regions. Explore … and open yourself up to what inspires you, what detail or overall impression sparks a poem, micro-fiction, or short story.
Our Tours will be accompanied by music, as some of the Faire’s best loved DJs will guide us through the Tours with selections of music, especially chosen for each of the regions we visit.
You will also be able to hear some of the stories and poems that people wrote last year, as we have turned this into special recordings that will be broadcast on Fantasy Faire Radio.
A Little Bit of our History
Fantasy Faire has hosted the Literary Festival within it since 2015. It has featured speakers and workshops, authors and poets, special guests and region tours. It has celebrated the imagination and the works of Terry Pratchett, William Shakespeare and J.R.R. Tolkien with their own days of events. It has escorted the curious through the Fairelands and encouraged them to put their discoveries to words. It has become an important part of the Faire and this year we will have another one. While waiting for the details to emerge, why not take a look at the Literary Festivals of the previous years?
