Reminiscing with Faire Films

Every year countless people with machines able to withstand the Curse of Baba Laga and enthusiasm rivaling magic in itself explore the Fairelands and capture their fleeting beauty on film. These vary from hours of walk-throughs to more edited shorter region showcases, to performance shows and interviews, to the story-driven narratives and adventures taking place in the Fairelands. That last one has been on the rise during the last few years, thanks to the latest addition to the Faire events: Film Festival. The Film Festival contest entries are linked on their own page, and I warmly recommend checking them out. Perhaps you’ll feel inspired to make your own next year!

My apologies for late posting of this – you see, there was this coronation.

There are still two key events for the last day of the Lit and Film Fests: the result of the Film Competition (the Wafflies Awards Ceremony) at 2pm SLT, and for the LitFest, the much-loved Mythos of the Fairelands at 5pm SLT, when Zander Greene and Aisling Sinclair talk to Aoife Lorefield.

All details of today’s events below the line.

Literary Festival and Film Festival Events for Friday May 5th

We can tell that the Faire is, sadly, coming to an end when we start to post “Last Chance” events! Today will see both the last Milkwood Dash at 6:30 am SLT, and the final LitFest Tour at 1:00pm SLT, to the beautiful region of Opera.

And for FilmFest, it will be the last chance to gather and watch the Film Competition entries together, starting at 10am SLT. But you will still be able to watch the films on the web at: https://fantasyfairesl.wordpress.com/entries-for-the-film-fest-competition/ – and then you can hurry over to The Stump Theatre on Fungalmire to vote for your favourites! Remember – the Wafflies are tomorrow!

There are also a number of LitFest events that you’ll want to see! At 9:00am SLT, PI Illios presents 1,001 Nights, about a fascinating installation – and some equally fascinating stories. Then at 10:00 am SLT, Boudicca Amat gives us the second of her readings from William Horwood’s Duncton Wood. At 2:30pm SLT, Saffia will be attempting a collective reading of one of the Winnie the Pooh tales by AA Milne – come along and join in! And finally, at 4pm SLT, Aoife Lorefield celebrates the life and work of Rachel Pollack and her contribution to fantasy, goddess spirituality, and the tarot.

Full details below the line.

Who will win the Wafflies? Come and vote for YOUR favourites!

The Film Festival competition is well under way now, with thirteen films competing for a chance to win that ultimate prize – a golden Wafflie!

There are thirteen entries (each no longer than 5 minutes) in the fictional category, 3 entries (again, each no longer that 5 minutes (in the fictional category) and 3 in the Livestream category (10 minutes).

All of these films have been made on the Fairelands, and we’ve been thrilled by the quality of the results. There are strong and exciting stories, amazing special effects, some great acting … and no evidence of lag! We asked people to reflect the spirit of the Fairelands … and you can judge how well they’ve achieved that.

Prizes will be awarded by the judging panel, but one film in each category will win a People’s Choice Wafflie – which will be decided by YOU.

All the films are available on the Competition entry page, and they are also available below the line on this post.

To vote, go to the Stump Theatre on Fungalmire. Here you will find the Voting Board. Each film is listed according to its category, and you will see a picture from each film. Above each film is a RFL kiosk. You vote by dropping your Lindens into the film/s of your choice. You can vote for as many films as you link, with any amount of Lindens, but the vinners will be those films that raise the highest amount of Lindens.

So, remember the old saying – Vote Early and Vote Often!

And now for the films!

Literary Festival and Film Festival Events for Thursday May 4th

A very busy day in store for LitFest and FilmFest!

FilmFest will begin at 11am SLT with a re-showing of Episode 3 of Harland Quinn and the Omega Hex, following which Zander Greene, Terra Volitant and Saffia Widdershins will be discussing the film with Chantal Harvey – and answering questions. After that, we’ll be showing some of the films that have been entered for the film competition. The voting is now open (in the form of a large voting board) in the Stump Theatre on Fungalmire, so come and pick your favourites!

LitFest welcomes a very special guest at 3pm SLT – Mark Norman of the very popular Folklore Podcast. He’ll be presenting a look at the Folklore of Scooby-Doo, which is the subject of his new book.

There are other events to enjoy (and join in) at Lit Fest too! As ever on weekdays, we begin with the Milkwood Dash at 6.30am SLT, and at 12 noon SLT we have a presentation on how to create your own Second Life book with Soull Starlight. Then at 2pm SLT, we have Wolfie’s Poetry Surf with Wolfgang Klinka.

And as well as all this, we have not one but TWO LitFest Tours today. At 1pm SLT, the Company of Faire Folk will be setting off from the Funglamire bus-stop to Nova Nadiya, and at 5pm SLT, the Company will be heading to The Shimmering Fen.

More details of all of these events follow …
