Safe Waters Foundation and all its aquatics return to sponsor the Faire this year. GraceSWF Wrigglesworth, the founder of SWF, tells us their reasons to return, what they have been up to this last year and recommends sources for people to explore mer-life with. You can read more about the Safe Waters Foundation in Grace’s last year’s interview.
This is not your first year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to return and do it again?
Many people are just unaware of the underwater side of Second Life. I’ve been working with Safe Waters Foundation (SWF) to increase awareness of mermen and mermaids and sea creatures. It has developed into building awareness of the undersea part of Second Life. It’s only natural to let people know about the sea side of Second Life at Fantasy Faire. And BONUS – we are helping raise funds to fight cancer. It’s a natural. We do good at multiple levels!
What is new in the life of Safe Waters Foundation? What have you been up to this last year?
Safe Waters has grown like crazy. We have almost a thousand members – SL people who occasionally put on fins and swim with us. Some are mer all the time and some aren’t mer – we welcome scuba divers, submarines and sea monsters! We have our headquarters located at Fanci’s Deep and the land rentals are frequently SOLD OUT. The mer mall is full of small shops with key mer designers. It’s a great way to discover mer retailers and designers of all types.
Do you have favourite books or movies about mermaids and mer-life you would recommend to others?
books: Fan Phenomena: Mermaids, Forgive My Fins (young adult), Mermaid by Carolyn Turgeon (adult), Goddess of the Sea by P C Cast (adult) and Forgive my Fins by Tera Lyn Childs
There are so many movies and tv shows actually. I recommend people who want to discover the abundance visit http://cynthiamermaid.blogspot.com/ The Gold Mermaid Cynthia writes it and it is absolutely the best source of mer information. She is a long time SL mermaid and familiar with the RL Mermaid trend as well.
What are you looking forward to most this year in the Faire?
Honestly – I’m looking for people discovering they can be a mermaid, merman or sea creature if they want by visiting our exhibit at the Faire. It is so beautiful and we mer are so rare – it is such a treat when you start finding other mers. I enjoy the increased mer visibility coming out of the Faire participation!
Thank you, Grace, for taking the time to chat with us and to share the delight of the aquatic life with us!
