Stevie Basevi, the owner of the Sanctuary sim and the Sanctuary RP Community, tells us what made her return for the third year of sponsoring the Faire. She also shares details on what it is like to plan a storyline for Fairelands and what Sanctuary’s roleplay is going to entail this year.
This is the third year Sanctuary RP Community sponsors Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to return and do it again?
Yes, three years already! Can you believe it? I sponsored again because it’s something I believe in very much, it’s tons of fun to be at the Faire, and it will be great to see old friends that I’ve made over time who have also come back each year.
What is it like planning and designing a roleplay story for the Faire? Do you cooperate with a sim builder, or ask for special kind of area, or do you adjust to a given environment?
When planning and designing a roleplay story, it’s been my experience that flexibility comes before all. We begin with an idea, an outline, then we discuss it with our players to flesh it out. Then we mold it into some sort of order. The Fantasy Faire comes right after our yearly Anniversary in Sanctuary, so it’s been very easy to continue our Anniversary story here at the Fantasy Faire. We are always assigned to a sim and work with the sim builder/designer to try and come up with an area for us to play in that works out well for everyone. This year, we work again with Jaimy Hancroft, owner of Death Row Designs, on the Dangarnon sim. She made an amazing area for us last year and I’ve no doubt that it will be just as amazing this year.
What is your story like this year? How does the roleplay work, are visitors welcome to join in?
Aahh, the Rise of the Blood King! It’s a great story, led by Belial Darwinian. After all the action of last year, things finally became calm in Sanctuary. One day though, there is a great earthquake in the realm that sets ‘something’ loose. An old woman wanders in and begins to speak of a prophesy foretold of a powerful King who will rise and attempt to tear our lands apart. As usual, there will be plenty for our friends who come and watch to participate in. We always try to offer something that is interactive with the people who come to the Fantasy Faire.
What are you looking forward to most this year in the Faire?
Fantasy Faire is a little different for me this year. I am also a Fantasy Faire Roleplay Lead, which means I’m assisting Saffia with behind the scenes things, and I love it! What I’m looking forward to most of all is not only being of help to our Sanctuary group, but to each group who has offered a Roleplay to the Fantasy Faire. It’s all very exciting to me to be lucky enough to help in this manner.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, Stevie, and thank you for all that you and your community do to bring the Fairelands alive!
