Shenai Orionite and her partner Angelon join and sponsor the Faire the first time this year with their store ORIONITE. Shenai shares with us their reasons for this decision, their love for the Faire and their beginnings as builders.
This is your first year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to become a sponsor?
A few reasons immediately come to mind:
1. Whenever we can, we try to contribute to the charity “Relay for Life.” Cancer impacts us all in some way or another and RFL has made it so easy to be a part of supporting and helping to find a cure for this devastating disease, that we will do our part to help whenever we have the opportunity.
2. We love Second Life, Fantasy and the Fantasy Faire and are grateful for the opportunity to help sponsor one of SL’s best annual events. Last year was our first time attending the Fantasy Faire and we knew right away that we wanted to see it happen again year after year as it brought so much joy to everyone we met.
Lastly, since we’ve gotten into the spirit of fantasy, we ‘re bringing some sexy, haute and exciting fantasy and steam punk inspired clothing for our current clothing project for the Blue Galaxian Feline (made by Ash Soyinka.) We’re so excited to bring a new look to our line of items and we hope you enjoy wearing and roleplaying in them as much as we do.
How did you begin building in Second Life? What inspires you to create?
We’ve been dabbling and exploring the idea of creating in SL since late 2007. I can still remember spending countless hours at the colleges of scripting and primitives or in sandboxes watching home creators bend prims into insane shapes. It was captivating and exciting and I knew then that I wanted to get involved somehow.
As new technology has become available and we somehow have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend time learning our hobby craft, we decided to take the leap into the ever changing, and exciting world of 3D art and finding our place in some great online communities.
As far as inspiration to create, (chuckles a bit) the more accurate question for us would be what doesn’t inspire us to create? We have a natural creative tension that let’s us find motivation for creating and pushing ourselves to the next level everyday. We tend to draw inspiration from our unique and different cultural experiences or beautiful things we have seen during our travels, watching different movies and playing games together, and I’ve found a lot of inspiration just from exploring the amazingly vast and various SL communities as they offer so much visual art and inspiration.
What are you bringing to the Faire this year? Give us some sneak peeks or teasers!
We are bringing steampunk inspired couture texture mods and add-ons that make use of the Orionite clothing system. We’ve got some cute items that are easy to mix and match to create a variety of fun looks.
What calls you to fantasy? When was the first time you encountered the genre and realized you enjoyed it?
The genre of of fantasy is such a great genre since it encompasses so many sub genres of speculative fiction, from medieval and steam punk fantasy all the way to world building and science-fantasy! There are so many fun things to create within this genre, it’s easy to fall in love with it.
Do you have a favourite Faire memory? What are you looking forward to most this year?
Besides exploring all of the gorgeously created sims and wandering through each one to visit each shop to see the amazing creations…we just loved going on the hunt! The cut scenes and voice overs were fantastically fun and the hints were just right – not too easy and not too difficult either. We had a blast running around looking for things.
This year, we are just so pleased to be a sponsor for such a great cause with a hard-working support team backing up this event. We tip our hats to them and look forward to having a chance to relax and enjoy the Faire together.
Thank you, Shenai, for taking the time to talk with us. Thank you, Shenai and Angelon for joining us in the Fairelands!
