Mami Jewell, the creator and owner of -AZUL-, shares with us her reasons to join and sponsor the Faire, her love for Second Life and teases us with a promise of transforming the elegance of -AZUL- into fantasy!
This is your first year sponsoring Fantasy Faire. What made you decide to become a sponsor?
I have been observing the success of the Fantasy Faire events for the past few years. As a person I am always trying my best to support any inworld activities that benefit Relay For Life of Second Life as much as I can, so this year I decided I wanted to get involved. Of course, joining as a designer might have been a way of getting involved but fortunately I was able to become a sponsor, as I wanted to contribute more and show my support to this cause.
How did you begin building in Second Life? What inspires you to create?
When I joined Second Life, I had the urge of creating! I started with creating skins, buildings and even simple outfits when I was still a newbie or fairly young in SL age if you prefer. Despite the fact that I am not a fashion designer in Real Life, I fell in love with the creation of clothes in Second Life and since 2007 I have owned my own clothing store, -AZUL-.
What are you bringing to the Faire this year? Give us some sneak peeks or teasers!
Well, I love surprising people so if you are expecting a picture here, you may disappointed! However, I can tell you that I have longed to create more fantasy styles – apart from the elegant formal-wear that my store is known for – and this is the best opportunity for me!
Of course, the -AZUL- flair and overall elegance and style will not be lost but transformed into a more fantasy-like creation! I hope that’s enough of a teaser that will encourage you to come and see in person what I am bringing to the Fantasy Faire!
What calls you to fantasy? When was the first time you encountered the genre and realized you enjoyed it?
In my mind, Second Life is itself a fantasy! Obviously, I would not be able to wear the outfits I create in Real Life and go shopping or even go and enjoy an Opera play. So, ever since I joined Second Life and I realized I could be and could create anything I wanted to, I felt it was the best place to be to unleash my imagination and creativity!
Do you have a favourite Faire memory? What are you looking forward to most this year?
Although I have observed and enjoyed past Faires as a “customer”, I consider myself a newbie for this year’s Fantasy Faire! I have loved all the wonderful sims and decorations and all the amazing creations I could find there but this year I hope to be inspired and to inspire others for the next – hopefully – Fantasy Faires to come!
Thank you, Mami, for taking the time to talk with us. Thank you for joining the Faire and helping us relay!
